The Delights of the West Country – The Georgian City of Bath, Cheddar Gorge & Wells
Sunday 16th – Monday 17th June 2024
Just £159 per person
£75 deposit now – balance in April

Day 1 – Bath
After a morning departure from the Essex area, we shall enjoy some free time in the beautiful city of Bath. Bath’s compact, visitor-friendly centre is overflowing with places to eat and drink, plus some of the finest independent shops in Britain, especially along the Pulteney Bridge which was designed in 1769 by Robert Adam. It is one of the most photographed examples of Georgian architecture in the City and one of only four bridges in the world to have shops across its full span on both sides. Bath’s stunning, honey-coloured Georgian architecture is straight from a Jane Austen novel; highlights include the iconic Royal Crescent and the majestic Circus, all set within a picturesque valley setting. The central square is home not only to Bath Abbey, but also the ancient Roman Baths.

The Delights of the Cotswolds
Sunday 18th – Monday 19th August 2024
Just £159 per person
£75 deposit now – balance in June

Day 1 – Bampton & Stow on the Wold
After a morning departure from the Essex area, we shall take a leisurely drive to the Cotwolds, stopping at the delightful village of Bampton. Bampton may seem oddly familiar to many first time visitors – it was used for filming the village scenes in the popular TV drama ‘Downton Abbey’. The old Grammar School Building served as the ‘Downton’ hospital and St Mary’s Church, whose spire provides one of the landmarks of the upper Thames Valley, also featured prominently. There will be time to purchase lunch, explore the village and walk the “Downton Mile”, visiting many of the filming locations featured in Downton Abbey.
We shall then make our way by coach to Stow on the Wold. The Market Square is large and impressive and testifies to the town’s former importance. It is surrounded by town houses, independent shops, antique centres, cosy cafes and inns all built in the mellow local stone, and it has been the focus of town life for many centuries, with the medieval market stocks at one end, the ancient market cross at the other and the impressive St Edwards Hall standing in the centre. Late afternoon, we shall make our way to our hotel in Cheltenham for our three course evening meal, & overnight stay.
